== Android Port ==
An android version of emuera is being developed on [https://github.com/xerysherry/uEmuera github], allowing one to play era games on mobile.
* Make sure all the files are encoded in UTF8 (most of the wiki builds already come encoded in this format).

== Era Games History ==

As a whole, the era games are text-based SLGs (simulation games) built around the eramaker engine. The term covers dozens of different games; most of them are built around the idea of raising and sexually training one or several girls and seem to have the most intricate sexual interfaces ever seen before in an H-game.

To understand where the differences and similarities come from, let us sit down a bit for a history lesson. In August 2003, a group known as Circle Baku released its first game called [era], a doujin game with characters from the eroge Kizuato, where the player gives sexual training to a kidnapped Kaede. It was the precursor to the era games, but it was the release of erakanon in 2005 that sparked the Japanese era games development scene.

==== Erakanon ====
Released as a free game by Circle Baku in December 2005, erakanon is a text-based game expanding on the sexual training framework of the original [era] with characters from the Kanon franchise. But most importantly, Circle Baku also freely allowed the modding and redistribution of its base engine, called eramaker. Since then, Circle Baku has released several games on its era series (although not using the eramaker engine itself, keeping to a more visual-oriented style) while the era community has maintained and created several text-based games with the eramaker engine. The Japanese community has also created an emulator for the eramaker engine called Emuera, which corrects some bugs and adds new scripting features allowing for advanced gameplay customization.

As the original eramaker engine only allowed for the modification of its CSV data files, the first fanmade games were basically versions of erakanon with different characters from different franchises. After the release of Emuera, though, the era games became quite diverse, with several different gameplay styles, including RPGs, strategy, management, raising and training simulators.
The western era games community started up in May 2016, with a thread started by the user Coold in the ULMF forums. He did a partial translation of the eraTohoK game – a strategy game with characters from the Touhou franchise. At the beginning of August that translation was posted on 8ch’s /hgg/ boards, and quickly sparked interest not only in eraTohoK itself, but in era games as a whole. Several anonymous users picked up the translation of eraTohoK and some other games, in a loosely organized but surprisingly efficient way.

The era translation group lacks organization by design as it removes nearly all overhead. How each game is translated depends on the maintainer, but generally five tools are used. <br />

: Git is a revision control software that lets people work on one or more files at the same time without having to deal with manually merging the changes.

: A program for editing text on a more advanced level than Notepad. Desired features include searching all open files, searching via REGEX etc.
;Diffing tool
: A dedicated non-git tool for comparing two or more files.
;Shift-jis converter
: Some text editors and Git clients cannot handle shift-jis very well, and converting them manually to UTF-8-BOM is unpractical.
;Translation tools
: For understanding Japanese.
Details about each section follows.
=Git=
Git revolves around repositories, with the point being that it should be possible to know exactly when a particular line in a file was modified. By viewing changes and updates on a line-by-line basis, it becomes possible for several people to work on a file without having to communicate with the others exactly what they are doing. <br />
Here are some common terms that will be used when working with git:
;Repository
: A self-contained project. A repository contains every state of a project at once.
;Branch
: A state of a project with its own diverging history. It is easy to move from one branch to another, and to merge them.
;Merge
: Merging is when the accumulated changes in one branch is applied to another. It only applies the changes not present.
;Merge conflict
: The result of two parallel commits changing one line, this requires human intervention.
;Clone
: The act of copying a repository while still maintaining references to it, so that changes applied to one can be applied to the other as well.
;Remote
: The repository a clone links to. Typically hosted online.
;Unstaged
: Pure line-by-line changes with no distinction.
;Staged
: An explicitly selected change.
;Commit
: A set of changes, typically along with a descriptive message. All staged changes are added to a commit when it is created.

: This sends all unsent commits to the remote repository.
;Pull
: This retrieves all new commits from the remote repository and merges them into the local state.

Git will only merge updates not already merged. Because of this external tools are needed to compare things larger in scope, for instance entire games. <br />

=Shift-jis Converter=
Era can only run files with certain encodings, two of them being Shift JIS and the other being UTF-8 BOM. The difference is that some programs like GitKraken and node.js (Visual Studio Code uses that for searching unopened files) cannot decode Shift JIS. Because of this games are converted to UTF-8 BOM instead. <br />
There are three methods.

It is often impossible to map anything between English and Japanese 1-to-1. Some concepts and words might mean different things, several things, or might not exist.

* '''Learn the grammar''' If studied an hour per day it will take about a week or so to get to levels where Chiitrans Lite becomes helpful. Once the sentences are reduced to particles, verbs, nouns, and adjectives, translation will be easier.

Japanese games are released in three versions, standalone, character dialog, and patches. Unless there has been a considerable amount of time since the last standalone - months or years - the latter two are ignored.
Standalone versions contain everything required to run the game, and the latest standalone version of a game can be found in the game/japanese branch of that game.
;game/japanese-utf-8
If the game is not in UTF-8 BOM from the start it is converted and put in the game/japanese-utf-8 branch manually. The game/japanese-utf-8 branch should never be merged into another branch, nor should any branch merge into it.
;game/eng-translation
Initially a branch of game/japanese-utf-8, and should optimally contain as few modifications as possible, preferably only the text itself. Additions are not a big problem but should be commented, while removing something warrants a good reason. If something is needed for the game to make sense in English, it naturally goes here. <br />
They should contain a changelog with entries based on commits describing what has been done.

It is recommended to play as Devil Summoner if you haven't played any SMT/Persona game beforehand. It has a tutorial (available only during the 1st day, accessible with "Search") which explains the basis of battles and COMP.<br />

==Training==

Training demons is very important, since it has two benefits:

* You can transfer MAG to them, which is spent to make them stronger

* Their abilities will increase, which in turn allows you to do more lewd stuff to them (most abilities also influence work performance and sell value)

Do NOT raise their rejection seal level: it makes training harder. If you really have to, make sure you have enough SURREN orbs to bring it back to zero.
You can also toggle MAG transfer/absorption ON/OFF, allowing you to give/take MAG to/from demons during training. MAG is more suited for demons, since they have more power-up options.
A demon can also work and earn Macca when his/her Sale Conditions are met.

Don't forget to store your unused demons at Party Setup > Store demon. They can be used as fusion fodder, anyway.

If you need a good grinding spot, unlock the Tartarus by completing Echo Building or Hatsudai Shelter, or level up your protag to 10. It has low and high level enemies as well, and you can take the elevator every 5 floors. It's accessible only at nighttime though. Alternatively, the colosseum dungeon has a high encounter rate and enemies always appear in groups of 10.

The main objective is to get any ending before day 50. You can still keep playing, but some route/endings are locked out after.
You can start a NG+ anytime from day 51, although it is recommended to get at least one ending first, since you gain more NG+ bonuses based on how many non-bad endings you got (Restaurant/Brothel endings are recommended, since you can get those anytime and have no additional requirements, just keep working).

= Synopsis =

eraTohoPM is a game based off Princess Maker, a life simulation game, where the player is mysteriously appointed as [https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Kaguya_Houraisan Kaguya Houraisan]'s educator by the current monarch of the [https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Lunar_Capital Lunar Capital]. The same monarch known for having a reputation as a tyrant, and has many suspicious rumors surrounding him.
The goal of the player is for them to raise Kaguya to become fully independent in five years time. How they choose to do this is up to them; however, there are many dark influences on the moon that have their own agendas and would like nothing more than to have Kaguya succumb to them.

= Gameplay =
Generally, the gameplay of eraTohoPM is stretched across different systems. The player can use a variety of items, clothing, skills, and mechanics to raise Kaguya how they would like. With all of these different systems, it also brings different ways to play the game and certain events can drastically alter how the game is played as well.

Gameplay in PM can be broken down into different "phases". <br/>
It loops in the order of:

The following sections below will go further into detail about the various systems in PM.

==Time System==
eraTohoPM has a time based mechanic. Time passes and is broken down into Years → Months → First Half / Second Half of that month. Certain actions and commands will advance time, moving from the first half of the month into the second and once the second half is over, it moves on over to the first half of the next month. The player has five years to raise Kaguya to reach an ending, not counting any sudden bad ends stemming from events or the player's decisions.

Time also affects other things such as certain events will only occur during specific dates. Another example is that, depending on what season it is, certain Leisure Outing locations will change and the player can get different results.

==Parameters & Stats==
In eraTohoPM, there are many different stats and abilities that affect gameplay. A big portion of events have some sort of stat requirement. <br/>
This table below will give a brief summary of the secondary benefits that a stat provides.

|Represents Kaguya's sexual desire, knowledge and the development of her body.<br> The higher this is, the easier it is to attract the attention of others. Also plays a role in certain combat actions.<br/> If it reaches 1000, the player will be given a bad end.

|Rises when Kaguya experiences abnormal training and other values.<br/> If this reaches 1000, the player will be given a bad end.

===Temperaments===
There are also various "Temperaments" that slightly affect various things. These temperaments change depending on Kaguya's experiences and the player is given a summary of their growth at the end of every month.

==Clothing & Attributes==
Clothing has an important role in PM. Most notable is that some clothing will steadily change Kaguya's attribute. Her attribute can be seen as an indicator of her affinity for a role. For example, when the game starts, Kaguya's attribute will start off as Princess [100]. If the player equips her with a Maid Uniform, at the end of certain actions, her Princess attribute will decrease to [99] and her Maid attribute will increase to [1]. The higher the number in a specific attribute, the more comfortable she is assuming the role. Depending on the attribute, the player will also unlock extra actions and commands pertaining to that attribute. This also affects the endings greatly, as a big portion of them will depend on her attributes as one of the requirements.

Another thing that Clothing does is provide special modifiers to Kaguya's stat growths. For example, a Nun Habit will make it easier for her Faith and Beauty stat to increase but gives a negative multiplier to Housekeeping. There are many different clothes and are even special modified and upgraded versions of existing clothes. For example, most of the base clothing have a short skirt and mini skirt version that are available to purchase after a certain point. These versions offer increased modifiers, positive and negative, and increased bonuses towards the attribute.

==Skills==
Skills are passive abilities that can be equipped to Kaguya for a variety of bonuses under the [Skills, Work & Preferences] command. They are earned by spending Skill Points that can be obtained using specific ''[[/Commands/]]''. Also, there's the option to use Attribute Points to unlock some skills which also obtained by using specific commands. There can only be two skills equipped at a time but are interchangeable at any moment.

==Events==
At the end of your action phase, the event phase starts. Any events that the player or Kaguya meets the requirement for will appear here. Events will almost always increase a stat, and can sometimes range from beneficial to negative side effects. Most events rely on Kaguya's stats and attribute for them to appear but some require a specific date to start appearing. Some will appear due to other factors such as Kaguya's workplace, her discipline plan, and whether she's kidnapped or not.
===Work===
The player is able to choose a job for Kaguya under the [Skills, Work & Preferences] command. Using these jobs, she is simultaneously able to earn money and increase her stats and attributes. She will have better compatibility with some jobs than others depending on her attribute. Some work events will also turn lewd depending on her Lust stat.
===Discipline===
The player can choose a discipline plan for Kaguya in the [Preferences] menu which will be administered at the end of every turn. These plans are ways to further increase her stats, though if her Wits temperament is high enough, she won't make any mistakes for the player to discipline her for, resulting in no bonuses.
===Bandit Kidnapping===
After the second year, bandits will start targeting Kaguya to abduct her. A gauge will start to appear during every event phase and if it fills up, Kaguya will get kidnapped. While kidnapped, the player is restricted in the actions and commands that they can choose until she is rescued. At the end of every turn while kidnapped, the bandits will start sexually torturing and training Kaguya, increasing her Lust and Corruption stat. To prevent the bandits from kidnapping her in the first place, the player should keep an eye on the gauge and use the [Military LvUP & Bandit Defenses] command.
===Pregnancy===
Whenever anyone (whether through an event/night service/education/kidnapping/combat) ejaculates inside Kaguya, there is the risk of her becoming pregnant. If she does become pregnant, the game will only let the player know when she is in her third month of pregnancy. Otherwise, the player has to purchase a Pregnancy Test from the Black Market to know whether or not she's pregnant before the third month. While pregnant, her weight will gradually increase depending on the stage of pregnancy. Also, the number of actions the player can have Kaguya perform during education and night service are also limited depending on the stage of pregnancy. At the end of every month, the player will obtain one Forbidden Milk from bottling Kaguya's breast milk. Forbidden Milk can be used to reduce fatigue, gives Love Exp, but can increase Kaguya's weight.

When Kaguya gives birth, she will obtain different bonuses to her stats depending on who the father is (even if the father is unknown).
==Endings==
There are numerous endings in the game, at least 100+. Some are short and some are very long. The ending requirements are either a combination of stats and attributes, special events, or are bad endings.

= Synopsis =

eraTohoPM is a game based off Princess Maker, a life simulation game, where the player is mysteriously appointed as [https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Kaguya_Houraisan Kaguya Houraisan]'s educator by the current monarch of the [https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Lunar_Capital Lunar Capital]. The same monarch known for having a reputation as a tyrant, and has many suspicious rumors surrounding him.
The goal of the player is for them to raise Kaguya to become fully independent in five years time. How they choose to do this is up to them; however, there are many dark influences on the moon that have their own agendas and would like nothing more than to have Kaguya succumb to them.

= Gameplay =
Generally, the gameplay of eraTohoPM is stretched across different systems. The player can use a variety of items, clothing, skills, and mechanics to raise Kaguya how they would like. With all of these different systems, it also brings different ways to play the game and certain events can drastically alter how the game is played as well.

Gameplay in PM can be broken down into different "phases". <br/>
It loops in the order of:

==Time System==
eraTohoPM has a time based mechanic. Time passes and is broken down into Years → Months → First Half / Second Half of that month. Certain actions and commands will advance time, moving from the first half of the month into the second and once the second half is over, it moves on over to the first half of the next month. The player has five years to raise Kaguya to reach an ending, not counting any sudden bad ends stemming from events or the player's decisions.

Time also affects other things such as certain events will only occur during specific dates. Another example is that, depending on what season it is, certain Leisure Outing locations will change and the player can get different results.

==Parameters & Stats==
In eraTohoPM, there are many different stats and abilities that affect gameplay. A big portion of events have some sort of stat requirement. <br/>
This table below will give a brief summary of the secondary benefits that a stat provides.

===Temperaments===
There are also various "Temperaments" that slightly affect various things. These temperaments change depending on Kaguya's experiences and the player is given a summary of their growth at the end of every month.

==Clothing & Attributes==
Clothing has an important role in PM. Most notable is that some clothing will steadily change Kaguya's attribute. Her attribute can be seen as an indicator of her affinity for a role. For example, when the game starts, Kaguya's attribute will start off as Princess [100]. If the player equips her with a Maid Uniform, at the end of certain actions, her Princess attribute will decrease to [99] and her Maid attribute will increase to [1]. The higher the number in a specific attribute, the more comfortable she is assuming the role. Depending on the attribute, the player will also unlock extra actions and commands pertaining to that attribute. This also affects the endings greatly, as a big portion of them will depend on her attributes as one of the requirements.

Another thing that Clothing does is provide special modifiers to Kaguya's stat growths. For example, a Nun Habit will make it easier for her Faith and Beauty stat to increase but gives a negative multiplier to Housekeeping. There are many different clothes and are even special modified and upgraded versions of existing clothes. For example, most of the base clothing have a short skirt and mini skirt version that are available to purchase after a certain point. These versions offer increased modifiers, positive and negative, and increased bonuses towards the attribute.

==Skills==
Skills are passive abilities that can be equipped to Kaguya for a variety of bonuses under the [Skills, Work & Preferences] command. They are earned by spending Skill Points that can be obtained using specific ''[[/Commands/]]''. Also, there's the option to use Attribute Points to unlock some skills which also obtained by using specific commands. There can only be two skills equipped at a time but are interchangeable at any moment.

==Events==
At the end of your action phase, the event phase starts. Any events that the player or Kaguya meets the requirement for will appear here. Events will almost always increase a stat, and can sometimes range from beneficial to negative side effects. Most events rely on Kaguya's stats and attribute for them to appear but some require a specific date to start appearing. Some will appear due to other factors such as Kaguya's workplace, her discipline plan, and whether she's kidnapped or not.
===Work===
The player is able to choose a job for Kaguya under the [Skills, Work & Preferences] command. Using these jobs, she is simultaneously able to earn money and increase her stats and attributes. She will have better compatibility with some jobs than others depending on her attribute. Some work events will also turn lewd depending on her Lust stat.
===Discipline===
The player can choose a discipline plan for Kaguya in the [Preferences] menu which will be administered at the end of every turn. These plans are ways to further increase her stats, though if her Wits temperament is high enough, she won't make any mistakes for the player to discipline her for, resulting in no bonuses.
===Bandit Kidnapping===
After the second year, bandits will start targeting Kaguya to abduct her. A gauge will start to appear during every event phase and if it fills up, Kaguya will get kidnapped. While kidnapped, the player is restricted in the actions and commands that they can choose until she is rescued. At the end of every turn while kidnapped, the bandits will start sexually torturing and training Kaguya, increasing her Lust and Corruption stat. To prevent the bandits from kidnapping her in the first place, the player should keep an eye on the gauge and use the [Military LvUP & Bandit Defenses] command.
===Pregnancy===
Whenever anyone (whether through an event/night service/education/kidnapping/combat) ejaculates inside Kaguya, there is the risk of her becoming pregnant. If she does become pregnant, the game will only let the player know when she is in her third month of pregnancy. Otherwise, the player has to purchase a Pregnancy Test from the Black Market to know whether or not she's pregnant before the third month. While pregnant, her weight will gradually increase depending on the stage of pregnancy. Also, the number of actions the player can have Kaguya perform during education and night service are also limited depending on the stage of pregnancy. At the end of every month, the player will obtain one Forbidden Milk from bottling Kaguya's breast milk. Forbidden Milk can be used to reduce fatigue, gives Love Exp, but can increase Kaguya's weight.

When Kaguya gives birth, she will obtain different bonuses to her stats depending on who the father is (even if the father is unknown).

There are numerous endings in the game, at least 100+. Some are short and some are very long. The ending requirements are either a combination of stats and attributes, special events, or are bad endings.
